Metal-X Engineering Limited (M.X.E.) was founded in November 1959, by Afif G. Najjar and his wife Labiby out of a personal need for decorative burglar proofing. Originally the company was located in Belle Vue, St. James, and manufactured diesel tanks and light metal items. This light metals division expanded to produce a wide range of metal products throughout the later years, including wheel barrows, trolleys, metal furniture, barbecue pits, steel windows, steel flush doors, burglar proofing and railings. M.X.E. was the first company in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean to manufacture and sell wheelbarrows starting back in 1968, as well as, designing and producing a flatbed wheelbarrow to transport concrete blocks and other flat objects.
In 1990 after the attempted local coup, the Najjar family needed to replace and rebuild their building. It was then that the opportunity was seen to expand the company to a structural steel fabrication business having come to understand the increasing demand for buildings made with a steel structure. In 1997, the company moved to its current location in Chaguanas and evolved to a company that operates as a subcontractor on major construction projects throughout Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean region.
Today, the fabrication and erection of steel structures has become the focus of the company’s operations for both residential and commercial purposes. The company holds safety as its number one priority and in keeping with modern technology, M.X.E. utilizes engineering software to render both two and three dimensional structural modelling.
The first project undertaken by M.X.E. was the pavillion for the sporting complex at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya. Some of the completed projects include, the Excellent Stores building, Sterling Services showroom, Woodbrook Penticostal Church, UWI Campus building, Ford showroom, Bretton Hall building, Customs and Excise building and the Bordelais Correctional Facility in St. Lucia, just to name a few.
For the future, Metal-X Engineering Limited looks forward to continued growth by securing a firm footing as the Caribbean region’s primary source for metal products and its premier contractor for structural steel headed by current C.E.O., Mr. Labib G. Najjar and his team. Metal-X Engineering Limited’s motto remains the words of Mr. Afif G. Najjar, ‘NO JOB IS TOO BIG NOR TOO SMALL. A METAL-X JIG IS WAITING FOR ALL’.
