Metal-X 50th Anniversary

Published : Sunday, 7th February 2010

Metal-X Engineering Limited celebrated it’s 50 year anniversary in 2010. It’s a milestone that not many other local businesses can boast about. The company opened its doors back in 1959, by Lebanese immigrant Afif Najjar and his wife Labiby, in Woodbrook, manufacturing only light metal products. Some of which included wheelbarrows, railings, doors and windows to name a few. In 1990, the focus shifted to structural fabrication and erection as a new niche was discovered. In 1997, the company moved to its current location in Chaguanas.

Presently the company takes on 10-20 projects per year, both commercial and residential types. The end product is second to none as all workshop staff are very experienced and trained. Also in 2012, a fabrication and welding institute was created to produce highly skilled fabricators for the workshop.

This company grew from manufacturing light metal products, to steel fabricating and erecting, on commercial and residential projects and today the company has approximately 25 members of staff who diligently keeps the company on the forefront of the construction sector.

Metal-X changes school name

Published : Wednesday, 10th September 2014

Metal-X Engineering Ltd. in conjunction with YTEPP Limited offers a well rounded training program, designed by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), in the field of Structural Fabrication and Engineering Design. This program started on April 25th 2012 (the founder, Afif G. Najjar’s birthday) and is the only one of its kind in the Caribbean.

Current C.E.O. Labib G. Najjar decided it was time to update the fabrication school, after three successful years of running, by changing its name. And what better way to do that than paying homage to the man that started it all, the founder. On September 10th 2014, the name of the fabrication school was changed to “Afif G. Najjar Fabrication and Welding Institute”, by the Hon. Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, Fazal Karim, and in the presence of YTEPP C.E.O. Nigel Forgenie.
